Mr. Gunnell is the original founder of Heritage Lane and its successful behavioral model of care. He comes with years of experience in post-acute care and behavioral health. As a former nursing home and post-acute care administrator, he has the professional skills to employ, train and manage the right individuals to carry out the important mission at Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living.
It is his passion to care for society’s forgotten who suffer from mental illness. To offer a higher functioning environment whose premise is based on goals and positive reinforcement. Mr. Gunnell believes in offering a less restrictive environment to all of Arizona residents who are placed in restrictive settings because there is nowhere else to live.
Mr. Gunnell is also passionate about self-worth and where that comes from. When one is dependent upon others for most things, underlying mental health related issues become forefront and the lives of those in support can also be negatively affected.
In contrast, achieving something, a goal, with little support from others, gives all of us a sense of accomplishment. An increase in will and a desire to repeat it. This is the absolute focus of Heritage Lane’s program and the passion of Mr. Gunnell.
Dr. Peterson is a highly successful psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with impressive credentials and experience. Since her early starting days of college, Dr. Peterson has worked in post-acute and long term care settings as a CNA (certified nursing assistance) and gained a love for the elderly very early on.
Dr. Peterson graduated with a Bachelor’s in Gerontology, a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, a Master’s of Science in Nursing, a Licensed Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and finally a Doctorate of Nursing Practice with psychiatric focus.
Dr. Peterson also has over 15+ years of experience treating Arizona residents who suffer from mental illness related diagnosis and disorders. There is nothing Dr. Peterson has not treated.
She is also a co-founder of the behavioral program at Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living and currently employed as the Psychiatric Program Director. Dr. Peterson is also the prescriber of all psychotropic medications, writes all resident behavior plans of action, meets with residents regularly and provides all behavioral focused monthly training to the employees of Heritage Lane.
With some experience in healthcare and medical sales, Mr. Harris started his career as a marketing liaison at Heritage Lane in 2012. For 3 years, he gained incredible experience and insight into our important work. He is passionate for the mission of Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living and has become a very capable leader.
Mr. Harris graduated from BYU-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and was offered a position of Manager in Training. Mr. Harris was promoted after successful completion and now serves the community as Manager of Community Operations.
He is excellent at ensuring the integrity of the program and that the community is maintained at the highest standards. He has very strong interpersonal communication skills and is very effective at maintaining the positive culture at Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living.
Mrs. Brown received her education from Central Arizona College graduating with honors. She has received prestigious awards of outstanding leadership and applied nursing skill. Mrs. Brown began working as a nurse in her home state of Rhode Island providing services to a diverse group of students in a large university. Her strengths as a director embody a theory that failures are learning opportunities and successes are celebrated.
After moving to Arizona in 2007, she started her career in behavioral health working for a care program dedicating its service to women with eating disorders and other mental health diagnosis.
In 2012 Mrs Brown worked alongside Dr. Lana J. Peterson, PMHNP at a behavioral facility in Casa Grande where she was a management nurse supervising other nursing staff providing behavioral support to patients on a secured mental health unit. In addition, she interacted with Dr. Peterson and was instrumental in the success of the behavioral program.
Mrs. Brown is extremely clinically perceptive and has excellent working knowledge of medical and mental health related illnesses. She has a vast knowledge of psychotropic drugs and their interactions across complex care scenarios and comorbidities.
Ms. Truax began her career at Heritage Lane in August of 2011 while the transition to behavioral health was in motion. She worked as a front desk receptionist answering phones and supporting the residents’ daily needs. Through this job, she learned about each resident and developed skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of residents with mental health issues.
She has extensive knowledge of the Arizona Long Term Care (ALTCS) payment system. She has excellent claim and accounts receivables knowledge. She is meticulous and accurate to ensure the community is receiving all necessary funds to operate efficiently.
She has excellent abilities to multi-task in some of the most difficult circumstances. She is always on target with her goals and works to achieve her best every single day. She is instrumental in helping the residents maintain financial stability and independence.
Mr. Stickelman is a recent employee of Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living and has extensive background in the service of Long Term Care.
Through several years, he has considerable experience evaluating and assessing residents for admission. He’s a natural people person and is able to develop relationships of trust easily because he has genuine respect and admiration for the residents we care for. He’s respectful and compassionate for those who suffer from mental health illnesses as well as the persons entrusted to their care.
Mr. Stickelman is a leader in our community and an important part of our team.
Ms. Espinoza has extensive experience operating activity programs for seniors. A currently licensed CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and a college education from Trinidad State, she understands what it means to provide quality in a healthcare environment. She has an intense passion for residents and is a strong advocate for their psychosocial well-being and quality of life.
Ms. Espinoza served as Activity Director for a large care center in Alamosa, CO for many years. While there, she developed specific programs to promote the physical, social, and mental health of the residents.
She is a strong advocate for resident independence, social interaction and works hard to ensure each resident’s needs are met and the quality of the program has integrity.
Ms. Espinoza is also a very good leader and has taken on some of the biggest challenges. Recently she planned, coordinated, and followed through with a “bucket list” activity where all the residents of Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living could ride the Dolly Steamboat on Canyon Lake, AZ.
Mr. Giesler is a graduate in Business Administration from Pima College in Arizona. He has used his culinary skills in various places since 1999. He’s a leader of respect for others and has an innate ability to cook for large groups of 150 or more and maintain the highest quality meals.
Mrs. Gielser has embraced the food council process at Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living and accepts the challenge of weekly meal planning. He is man of integrity and positive attitude.
Food in assisted living is difficult to master and the residents of Heritage Lane often comment how good the food is.
Ms. Arreguin is known at Heritage Lane Behavioral Assisted Living for being tough and on point. She is a meticulous cleaner and allows nothing to slip by.
She has decades of experience cleaning large commercial buildings to houses and has a special ability to making sure the community environment is clean.
Ms. Arreguin is extremely engaged in the cleaning system and her style ensures Heritage Lane is clean and odor free.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Oregon City High School and shortly after enrolled at a local junior college to begin his career in construction management.
Mr. Nelson has worked for large scale construction companies building structures of steel and wood framing. He gained extensive experience in electrical, drywall, insulation, and other skilled trades. He eventually was promoted for foreman and manager over several construction crews.
Mr. Nelson moved to California in 2005 working with another large construction company building and remodeling large custom homes. He has a keen sense of detail and understands both rough-in construction and finish construction.
Mr. Nelson moved to Arizona in 2016 and joined the Heritage Lane team. He is a true team player and has excellent working knowledge of all construction related tasks to keep the community safe, hazard free and operating efficiently.
